Lemonade Diet

Also known as the Master Cleanse diet, it is one of the oldest detoxification methods used today.  It was introduced by Stanley Burroughs during the early 1940s with the intention of cleansing the body to help rejuvenate it.  This is one of the hardest diets to follow because of its strict regimen that can be challenging to many.  This is normally followed anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks at the most.

Dieters who have undergone this method have reported relief from arthritic symptoms, pain, infections, and even gout among others.  It can typically clean the kidneys and the digestive system.  It can also purify the cells and glands through the secretion of waste and hardened materials in the joints and muscles.  Because it can rejuvenate your body, it relieves irritation and pressure on the nerves, blood vessels, and arteries.

Special Note: I have tried to complete Lemonade diet several times in the past. I can proudly say that I failed every-time to finish the course! I could only last for 3 days, and then felt like dead.

Raw Food Diet

The detoxification period can last for about two weeks and can present varied symptoms like chills, bad breath, daytime drowsiness, headaches, concentration problems, on the onset.  However, as dieters begin to settle into the diet, they begin to consistently feel good.  Some people may be shocked on the amount of food they will be allowed to consume, but still allow them to lose weight. Adjusting to the raw food is also not that difficult because of the variety, availability, and freshness of choices.  Vegetables are good choices to help clean the palate and curb cravings for sweets.  This also helps dieters to discover new types of raw foods that may have been overlooked before.

Tip: The Paleo diet is becoming very popular these days. I can go-on a raw food diet for 3-5 days quite comfortably, but then it gets boring!

Soup Diet

Among the different detox diet programs today, this is perhaps the most flavorful and filling.  It allows dieters to eat three portion controlled meals and take a bowl of vegetable soup in between.  Weight loss occurs because of the reduced calorie with every cup, which means you can take in more and still lose weight.

Personal Advice: From my experience it is better to eat whole fruit than drinking juice made from it. The extra fiber in most of the fruits gives you sense of fullness. Although it not the most exciting form of diet, it isn’t too boring either.

What about physical activity & exercise during detoxification period?

During detox period it is not advisable to undergo high intensity exercises. However, you can engage in light physical activities like walking and jogging. Personally, I love raiding my Montra Bicycle for 30-45 minutes per day.

Detoxifying the body can also remove toxins via the kidneys, lungs, intestines, skin, and lymph.  Unfortunately, when the system of the body becomes compromised, these organs fail to filter impurities properly thereby negatively impacting all of the cells.  Therefore, when the natural healing system of the body begins to falter, the best way to build it up and enhance its functionality is through a detox diet.

Being overweight burdens the body unnecessarily.  By losing weight, the body system can regain its normal functions.  However, beyond this, you will also benefit from improvement of eating habits that is attributed to the cleaning of the body.  Dependence on caffeine, meat, dairy, junk foods, and other unhealthy choices is eliminated resulting in the prevention of conditions that can negatively impact overall health.
